One of my most popular classes to date, Ex Voto Sacred Hearts is a fun foray into metal tooling and sculpting. Ex-votos are sometimes carried as devotional objects, and to give thanks for granted wishes, prayers and intentions, but more often, here they're created and used as wall décor.
In this class, you'll learn how to play with pliable sheet metals: manipulating, cutting, embossing, punching, patinas, degraders and so much more, while we explore themes and motifs in Mexican artwork. If you appreciate an assemblage or mixed media type class, you’ll love this one! Use all kinds of media, tools and creative add ons!
Work with copper and aluminum sheets, plaster, paper, wood and paint, as well as those funky metal charms known as Milagros, to create your own version of these gorgeous wall hangings. Sacred Hearts can have religious connotations, be icons or fun, kitschy statement pieces. You’ll have the chance to create multiples, in any style you choose!
What you’ll get:
Lessons in manipulating, cutting and embossing sheet metals, degrading and adding patinas, working with templates or freehand design, punching and decorating.
- multiple sheet metals to work in
- multiple heart options in plaster, wood and metal
- color application, inks and paint, and adding other mixed media options
- adding charms, milagros, beads and other add ons
- utilizing wood substrates, boxes, and other mounting options
This class is BYOB, and drinking, (or eating, if you’d like to bring snacks), are always options!
I am dedicated to offering stress free, stress reducing art classes that are fun, no matter what your art experience may be!
While you go at your own rate in all my classes, this tends to be a busy, but low intensity class.

Cancellation Policy
As a one woman business, all material costs for lessons are taken from reservation fees. Ruthi Makes does not offer refunds for classes unless I am cancelling the class myself.
If you must cancel due to illness or other force majeure circumstances, I ask that you cancel at least 12 hours prior to your class.
The option to rollover your class fee to another class of your choice is good for 12 months. Other classes may require additional fees. All classes require pre-registration, and you may use class credit by emailing ruthi.makes@gmail.com to register.
