Portfolio development for middle, high school or college entry levels, audition prep, or skill building are all options in one on one classes with me!
Are you trying to get into MPVA/HSPVA and need help with your art portfolio?
I am proud to say that in the last five years every one of my art students have gotten callbacks to MPVA/HSPVA. While I can’t guarantee entry, I work closely with each student to ensure they are fully prepared for the audition process. This can be a stressful time, so my approach focuses on guided support, practice with past prompts, and exercises that build techniques, skills and confidence. For HSPVA, please keep in mind that I do not accept new audition students past summer going into their 8th grade year, since this is a long term commitment with many months of work necessary!

Ruthi Makes private lessons take place in my studio space in southwest Houston, and are tailored to your individual goals. Whether you’re revisiting a past skill, learning something new, developing a project, or preparing a portfolio, I’m here to help!
With more than 30 years in an art classroom, I teach a wide range of media, including drawing, painting (abstract and hyperrealism), watercolors and colored pencil, sewing, beading, wire work, and more.
Looking for drawing and painting help particularly? That's actually my forte', and with literally thousands of past drawing students, I can confidently tell you I've never had a student that couldn't draw!
Private lessons are 60 minutes long. Some basic media, like drawing pencils, are included in your lesson fee for use in class. Students will require their own sketchbooks for drawing lessons. I may recommend the purchase of certain supplies as we continue our lessons.
Please be advised that some materials are not included in your lesson fee, and an initial consultation will determine your project scope and needs. Jewelry making and sewing require one's own supplies after our initial lesson. I am happy to advise on tools and supplies at any time!
Please note: Some media, projects or skills will take more than an hour to learn. Please be flexible with timeline requirements and expectations!

What To Expect at a Ruthi Makes Class
Ruthi is a veteran teacher, with Texas Education accreditation in Studio Art and over 25 years of combined classroom experience. In her classes you will enjoy:

Cancellation Policy
As a one woman business, all material costs for lessons are taken from reservation fees. Ruthi Makes does not offer refunds for classes unless I am cancelling the class myself.
If you must cancel due to illness or other force majeure circumstances, I ask that you cancel at least 12 hours prior to your class.
The option to rollover your class fee to another class of your choice is good for 12 months. Other classes may require additional fees. All classes require pre-registration, and you may use class credit by emailing ruthi.makes@gmail.com to register.
You implicitly accept these terms to your class with payment.
