This class has been a fan favorite since I began teaching it, and remains one of my more popular classes! This is the class that will get you to hang your work in your home or office proudly. You’ll get instruction on how to build a successful composition, art concepts, some tried and true color theory and paint blending basics, and paint applications. We will talk about adding media, as well as utilize both liquid paints and heavy body paints. 
Most of all, you will learn what works, and create your own, while quieting your mind and letting your subconscious guide your choices. I’m there to coax you along, give you color mixing and compositional advice, some hands on assistance, and show you examples that will inspire your work.

Painting Abstracts doesn’t require any special practice or prior experience, and the benefits of letting your mind create in this way are bountiful. Abstract art challenges our brains to create our own interpretations, thereby stimulating the higher-level areas of the brain responsible for creativity and imagination.
Specifically, it can-
  • teach us to look at art—and, in a sense, at the world—in a new way. 
  • free our brain from the dominance of reality, to create imaginative and creative responses to everyday problems.
  • allow you to achieve ‘flow’, that elusive meditative state that reduces stress, and temporarily pushes aside all of your worries!

You may bring any canvas size of your choosing to this class, but please keep it under 48×48 inches maximum.

This class is BYOB, and drinking, (or eating, if you’d like to bring snacks), are always options!

I am dedicated to offering stress free, stress reducing art classes that are fun, no matter what your art experience may be!  

While you go at your own rate in all my classes, this tends to be an energetic, high intensity class.

What To Expect at a Ruthi Makes Workshop

Ruthi is a veteran teacher, with Texas Education accreditation in Studio Art and over 25 years of combined classroom experience. In her classes you will enjoy:

Cancellation Policy

As a one woman business, all material costs for classes are taken from registration fees. As such, I do not refund classes unless I am cancelling the class. If you cannot make a class, and you give me prior notice, (at least 12 hours), your fee will be rolled over to another class of your choice for up to a 12 month period. Classes require a five person minimum to be held. If I do not have an adequate number of participants, your full class registration fee will be returned to you, using the payment provider you originally used.
